Palestine Art Tracks

Palestine, Texas– Palestine Main Street and Palestine Tomorrow Inc. will kick off the 2015/2016 Art Tracks Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit with an Artists Reception on Oct. 20 from 4-8 p.m. in The Redland’s lobby.

“We have wonderful new pieces in this round of entries,” said Jean Mollard, Main Street Board Chair. “There are returning artists and a few new ones. It’s a robust show.”

Palestine Main Street is a showcase for outdoor art that is loaned to the City for one year by the artist. Placed in prominent places throughout the downtown, the art is a beautification effort and is also a tool for economic revitalization.

Work on display will be available for viewing Oct. 20, 2015 through approximately Oct. 20, 2016 to coincide with the annual Hot Pepper Festival.

Artists accepted into the exhibit include:

  • Laura Sturtz
  • Pascale Pryor
  • Comminos Studios
  • Chris Thompson
  • Terry Jones
  • Carla Jones
  • Jeffie Brewer
  • Jimmy Don Snowden
  • Dewane Hughes
  • Brianna Detterling

Organizers said this year is a little different because Art Tracks was allowed to keep five pieces from the last show for a one year extension. Pieces by Lottie Minick, Gustavo Galvan and Simon Saleh will remain as part of the exhibit. The pieces for the 2015/2016 season total 17.

“Art is a catalyst for change. Outdoor art is a focus for our downtown,” said Laura Westgate, Communications Manager for the City of Palestine. “It creates a conversation with our outdoor space, allows us to have a 24/7 attraction and slows visitors and people down long enough to admire our wonderful town.”

Begun in 2012, the Art Tracks program encompasses the outdoor space, has hosted pop-
up art galleries and sponsored student shows. The Palestine TX mobile app will feature all of the art so smart phone users can find all the artwork. The app is free from the Apple and Google Play stores.

A driving map and booklet will be available beginning Oct. 20 at the Palestine Visitor Center, 825 W. Spring St., Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Information is also available at the Palestine Chamber of Commerce, 401 W. Main.
