Crockett-  The Piney Woods Fine Arts Association will host award-winning Blues artist Ruthie Foster will return to East Texas. Foster is a blues powerhouse with a hot blend of soul, blues, rock, folk and gospel. January 21, at 7:30 p.m. Foster will perform at the Crockett Civic Center.

The New York Times called Foster’s voice “long suffering,” and many others would agree Foster has a voice that can set any stage on fire.

Foster comes from humble beginnings in rural Texas. She completed a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy Band before landing in New York City. After a run of bad luck, Foster moved back to Texas to care for her mother. Foster eventually resumerd her music career and became a regular nominee at the Austin Music Awards, winning Best Folk Artist in 2004-05 and Best Female Vocalist in 2007-08.

In 2009, Foster added a Gramy nomination to her list of achievements for Best Contemporary Blues Album for her album “The Truth According to Ruthie Foster.” She then won Blues Music Association awards for both Best Traditional and Best Contemporary Female Blues Artist in back-to-back years.

Foster has also collaborated on stage and recorded with an impressive list of artist which includes names such as Bonnie Raitt, Warren Haynes, Big Head, Eric Bibb and Paul Thorn. She is a regular at several music festivals including the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Merlefest, the Monterey Blues Festival, and the Kate Wolf Festival.
