Dogwoods & Diamonds: 75th Annual Dogwood Trails Celebration

PALESTINE — A parade, downtown festival, live music and activities for all ages are set to kick off the opening weekend of the 75th Annual Dogwood Trails Celebration on Saturday, March 16. Festivities will kick off with the annual Dogwood Trails Parade beginning at 10 a.m., on Saturday with the theme “Dogwoods and Diamonds.”

The Dogwood Trails Festival is presented by the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce.
Gates are open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a $1.00 entry charge. Children 12 & under get in FREE. Proceeds from the gates go to local non-profits.

There will be something for everyone at the 75th Annual Dogwood Trails Celebration! Browse arts, crafts and retail vendors. Have you favorite festival foods, and enjoy the beer garden. There will be live entertainment and live music, and even a Kids Zone!

March 17: Old Pilgrim Church, gingerbread & coffee will be served under the arbor of trees by members of the famous Parker family & their friends. The church is the first Protestant church in Texas. The original log church building has been reconstructed and is open to the public. Tours of the historic cemetery along with tales of the pioneer family will be available 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Take 287 South to Elkhart, right on 294 into Elkhart, cross railroad tracks, left on 861 (sign points to Pilgrim Church), loops around to church on left.

March 23: Sarah Churman, author of “Powered On” will be at Old Magnolia for a book signing and sale. Churman was born deaf, but received a hearing implant at age 29. The video for Churman hearing herself for the first time went viral and a few days later she was featured on Ellen. Powered On is the uplifting, true story of Sarah Churman’s amazing transition from a life without natural hearing to a new world of sound. Nearly three decades after being born profoundly deaf, an advancement in technology allowed Sarah to hear the voices of her own children clearly for the very first time. In this deeply personal work, she reveals what it means to experience both sides of a disability-including the remarkable life skills and lessons she gained from years of being “inside herself,” the joys inherent in listening, and the importance of tuning out certain noises in the commotion that surrounds us all.
