The Downes-Aldrich house is located in Crockett, Texas and is considered to be one of the most beautiful homes in Houston County.
The Downes-Aldrich House is an outstanding example of Eastlake-Victorian architecture. Construction of the house was started about 1891, and completed in 1893, by J.E. Downes, a prominent local businessman. Downes lived in the house with his wife Lizzie until 1910, and sold it to the distinguished civic leader and historian Armistead Albert Aldrich the following year.
Today the home serves as the Historical and Cultural Activities Center of Houston County.
