Free “Love Your Old Building” Preservation Workshops Offered by Main Street

The Palestine Main Street invites anyone interested in preserving our historic structures to a free “Love Your Old Building” workshop series, Sat., May 19, 2012 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sherwin-Williams Paints, 2025 Crockett Rd.

This FREE workshop series will feature short, informative thirty-minute workshops by local restoration, building and service experts.

May is National Preservation Month, and to celebrate and support the local community, Main Street has partnered with numerous renovation and rehabilitation professionals to provide the interactive, workshop series.

Preservation preserves a community’s past by utilizing existing assets to create a strong future. There are many benefits to historic preservation to a community: increased community involvement and pride, stabilization of property values, strengthening of the local economy by “keeping it local”, and general esthetic value.

According to Laura Westgate, Main Street Manager, “Historic preservation continues to be a driving force in our city, and with over 1800 historic structures there are always new projects popping up.” Ms. Westgate continued, “Our city boards work closely with building and home owners to help them through the processes and preserve the historic fabric of our town. Without the participation of individuals and the boards many historic structures would be lost forever!”

“The Main Street Board really wanted to support the local community by offering workshops tailored to the needs of historic structures. By matching people with the resources, we can continue to make Palestine a showplace for those who visit, but most importantly, for those who live here.”

Snacks hosted by The Cuckoo’s Nest (315 E. Crawford) and beverages by Sherwin-Williams.
