Weaver Street Dedication Set
NACOGDOCHES- Arthur Weaver helped found the Nacogdoches Chapter of NAACP, organized the Nacogdoches County Voter’s League and the Nacogdoches County Community Foundation. Mr. Weaver’s homestead is located on the corner of Martin Luther King Drive, and Lucas Street. Recently a request was made to rename Lucas Street in honor of Mr. Weaver. The request was submitted to the recently formed “Naming Committee.” The committee’s recommendation was heard and approved by the Nacogdoches City Council last month. “It is our privilege to be able to honor Mr. Weaver and his accomplishments in this way,” said Mayor Roger Van Horn.
Hearth & Tinsel Historic Home Tour in Palestine
By Dana Goolsby
PALESTINE- During the first weekend of Christmas In Palestine I had the opportunity to take the Hearth & Tinsel Historic Home Tour. As a resident of Palestine’s historic district, there is not a day that passes in which I don’t think to myself, “I would love to go inside that house,” as I pass the Victorian wooden castles on my way home. When historic home owners open their doors, I like to be first in line. The homes were as magnificent and and romantic as I had imagined, and among the most finest and most beautiful historic architecture in the state.
Nacogdoches, Texas- The City of Nacogdoches Historic Sites Department recently received a very generous land gift from the Nacogdoches County Historical Foundation. This piece of land, a vacant lot located on the corner of North Lanana and Bois d’arc Streets, was purchased from a private owner by the Nacogdoches County Historical Foundation and then gifted to the City of Nacogdoches.
