Mission Tejas State Park Kicks Off Summer with New Trail System

WECHES- Mission Tejas State Park is getting ready to kick off the summer with a bang! June 1st will be the grand opening of the park’s new trail system and guided hike. These trails will be “foot traffic” only, however, the park hopes to be able to open equestrian trails in the future. The new trails provide five additional miles of trail to the existing trail system.

Meet at The Mission Replica at 10am on June 1 to join Mission Tejas State Park in the grand opening of their new trail system.  Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes & bring bottled water.

JUNE 8, 2013:  HISTORIC SITES TOUR!  This tour will include the historic features of the park, The Rice Family Log Home, The Mission Replica & a walk along El Camino Real.  Begins at 10am @ The Rice Home.

JUNE 15, 2013:  FROM GARDEN TO KITCHEN!  A look at the pioneer garden – what crops they might have grown, agricultural practices & a how things have changed. Then we will get out the Dutch Oven & see what we can cook up!  11am until 1pm @ The Rice Log Home.

JUNE 22 & 23, 2013:  CCC WEEKEND!  Join us to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Co. 888 of the Civilian Conservation Corps.

June 22 from 10am until 12 noon we will discuss the CCC’s work at Mission Tejas and the work of the CCC as a whole.  Lots of fun, hands on activities for kids and interesting history suitable for all ages.  Meet at The Pavilion.

On June 23 from 10am until 2pm join us for a hike through the park & we will visit each of the CCC features.  Highlights of the life & work of the CCC will take place during the hike.  Kids and pets (on a leash) are welcome.  Be sure to wear comfortable, supportive shoes & bring plenty of drinking water.  Meet at The Pavilion.

JUNE 29, 2013:  MOUND BUILDERS & TRADERS-THE CADDO PEOPLE! A presentation of the first inhabitants of Mission Tejas:  The Caddo were the first people the Spanish encountered in East Texas.  This program will look at the rich cultural history of the Caddo people and how they lived.  Begins at 10am at The Pavilion.

ALL EVENTS ARE FREE, THERE IS A $2.00 PARK ENTRY FEE FOR ALL THOSE 13 YRS AND OLDER. LOCATED ON HWY 21 BETWEEN ALTO AND CROCKETT IN WECHES.  PLEASE CALL
