PCT to Kick Off Fall Show Texas-Style

PALESTINE- Before the big red curtain opens at 7:30 this Friday night at the Historic Texas Theatre for the Palestine Community Theatre (PCT) debut of the “Red Velvet Cake War,” patrons will literally have their cake and eat it too!  The PCT will kick things off Texas-style during the traditional Opening Night Gala with complimentary wine and cheese, red velvet cupcakes, red velvet fudge, and an auction beginning at 6:30.

According to Dana Goolsby, PCT marketing director and the director of the fall show, the non-profit organization is sponsoring an auction during the opening night festivities with the proceeds going toward the last phase of the Texas Theatre’s renovation.

“Our final restoration project will be to complete the transformation of the façade with ticket booths and new doors,” said Goolsby.  “We take great pride in our grand old lady on Crawford Street and want her to look her best so that generations to come can continue to enjoy the crown jewel of Downtown Palestine.”

Auctioneer Steve Smith has volunteered his services to sell the distinctive red velvet cake and red velvet fudge desserts to the highest bidders.

“Becky Wolfe, of Oxbow Bakery and Antiques, has graciously donated one of her renowned red velvet cakes to be auctioned on opening night,” said Goolsby.  “Mrs. Wolfe’s secret recipe appears to be a combination of nostalgia and East Texas culture sure to tickle your taste buds!”

“My mother used to make me red velvet cakes when I was a child because it was my favorite,” said Wolfe.  “I make mine from scratch and use real cream cheese icing.”

Not to be outdone is longtime Texas Theatre Board Member Michael Cook who is placing a batch of his red velvet fudge on the auction block.  Patrons may taste a sample of Cook’s special contribution prior to the sale.

“The Red Velvet Cake War,” sponsored by Bodi Services and the Anderson County Roughnecks,” will run the first two weekends of October.  Show dates are October 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13.  Fridays and Saturdays are 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.  Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $8 for students (ages 4-18).  Tickets can be purchased locally from Dogwood Diner, Education Unlimited, Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce, and Sears Palestine.  Tickets can also be purchased online at www.outhousetickets.com.

  1. The show sure does sound pretty neat to be watching. As a kid, my parents would take to shows like this in Georgia. The theater that we went as a family was pretty big with long red velvet theater curtains . https://www.lushescurtains.com/cotton-velvet-curtains
