Robert Earl Keen to Headline 2nd Annual Summerfest
LUFKIN– Summer will get off to a rowdy start in Lufkin when Texas Music legend Robert Earl Keen headlines the second annual Summer Fest Texas, May 19 at the George H. Henderson Jr. Expo Center. East Texas acts Dave Fenley and the Good Deal, Bryan Harkness, and Westbound 21 round out a full day of fist-pumping country music, tasty barbecue, and cold beer.
After the success of last year’s inaugural Summer Fest Texas, organizers are raising the bar by hosting Keen, a pioneering singer-songwriter who has earned his place in the Texas Music pantheon with classic songs like “The Road Goes on Forever” and a reputation as a consummate live performer. Keen, a recent inductee into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association Hall of Fame, released his fifteenth album, “Ready for Confetti,” last year.
Summer Fest Texas will also feature some home-grown talent, including Dave Fenley & the Good Deal, fronted by Lufkin native David Fenley. The band, which recently garnered four Texas Music Awards nominations, is supporting its latest album, “A Minute to Breathe.” Lufkin songwriter Bryan Harkness and Nacogdoches-based band Westbound 21 will also take the stage.
The music isn’t the only attraction at Summer Fest Texas. A barbecue cook-off will give hungry fans plenty of mouth-watering options. Barbecue cook-off teams are still being accepted, and entry forms are available at www.easttexassummerfest.com/BBQTeams/.
Doors open at 11 a.m. Tickets are $15 and are available at the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau, all area Brookshire Brothers stores and from Outhousetickets.com. There are a limited number of Reserved Tables with seating for 8 available for $500.00. Please call today to reserve your table.
