Nacogdoches, Texas- Historic downtown Nacogdoches is gearing up to play hostess with the mostess to the Pulpwood Queens next week at Mast Hall, 317 E. Main. The Pulpwood Queens book club is dedicated to promoting literacy and good literature; it has grown from six members in 2000 to more than 2,000 members and 550 chapters, including 10 in foreign countries. Its annual Convention, the Girlfriends Weekend will take place January 15th-17th in Texas’ Oldest Town. The ticketed convention is expected to attract approximately 300 tiara wearing, pink and cheetah print loving ladies from across the country.
The Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau has been hard at work making plans for this group. The convention is attracting first class authors from across the country in panel format including several ties to Hollywood. Merchants of historic downtown Nacogdoches are literally “turning downtown pink,” in anticipation of the arrival of the Pulpwood Queens. While the convention focuses on books and literacy the group does have several opportunities to explore the red brick streets, and downtown businesses are anxiously awaiting their arrival.
Everyone is invited to come downtown on Friday, January 16th from 6 to 8 p.m. for the Downtown Block Party. Sixteen downtown businesses including 4 eateries will be decked out in their pulpwood best. A Pink Carpet will greet convention goers outside of Mast Hall. G Patterson’s Photography studio will also have a photo booth with an opportunity for everyone to strike their best red carpet pose. The following downtown businesses will be open late for everyone’s shopping and dining pleasure: Texas Size Bling, CASA’s Blue Ribbon Gift Shoppe, Heart of Texas, Dolly’s Dinner, Miller’s Point, Olde Towne, Glass Castles, Southern Belle Boutique, Shelley’s Bakery & Café, Polka Dotz Boutique, French Knot Quilt Shop, the Liberty Bell, Rees Jewelry, Corner Collectibles, Rachel’s Antiques & Uniques, the Art Exchange, Dollheads, Falon Boutique, Brick Street Antiques and House of Traditions. “Our merchants have pulled out all of the stops for this convention. From hot pink prom dresses in the windows, pink bath salt giveaways, book signings featuring several local authors, and even the opportunity to create and take home your own bookmark,” said Main Street Director Sarah O’Brien. “I’ve always known our merchants are creative but I have been blown away by their enthusiasm for this group. I hope community members will make plans to join us downtown next Friday and enjoy the fun. “
