Experience Caddo history and culture through a variety of activities, including performances of Caddo Indian music and dance. Try your hand at making stone tools and throwing the atlatl. Enjoy Indian tacos, guided tours, American Indian exhibits, jewelry, beadwork, and other presentations and exhibits.
Alto, Texas- Caddo Mounds State Historic Site (SHS) is offering a Caddo traditions-themed workshop on July 23-25, 2016. The Caddo Mounds SHS is an approved continuing professional educational (CPE) provider for the Texas Education Agency. The intended audience for this workshop is Texas Social Studies, Language Arts, and Fine Arts K-12 teachers.
Nacogdoches, Texas- It’s time to roll up your sleeves and cut some switch grass! Caddo Mounds State Historic Site (CMSHS) harvested switch grass at the Stephen F. Austin Experimental Forest in Nacogdoches in November 2015 for the construction of a traditional Caddo grass house at the site. The next harvest will take place at the Experimental Forest on January 23, at 9:30a.m. A rain out date is scheduled for January 30.
