The J.B. & Kathryn Sallas Amphitheater Under Construction in New Crockett Park
Crockett- A new amphitheater and stage was dedicated at a groundbreaking ceremony on April 11, 2013. The J.B. & Kathryn Sallas Amphitheater at Arnold Park is located next to the Depot Museum and Visitor Center. This is a joint effort between the City of Crockett, Houston County, the Chamber of Commerce, the Depot Museum and Visitor Center, Piney Woods Fine Arts Assoc. and many local businesses. This stage was made possible due to a one time gift from the Sallas Estate and land donated by the Leonard Arnold family.
County Judge Erin Ford and Mayor Wayne Mask were present at the groundbreaking and both spoke about the excitement and the opportunities this new stage will provide the city. This new multi-purpose stage and amphitheatre will be able to accommodate a variety of different types of performers, while providing a new venue for use by all the people of Crockett.
“We are especially excited about this new stage and what it will provide to the citizens of Crockett and are proud to announce one of our Summer Series concerts will be the inaugural show on the new stage!!” J. Bryan Lake, Executive Director of Piney Woods Fine Arts Association said.
PWFAA will be presenting free concerts in the park every Thursday in June. The first of these concerts is Texas-blues legend Texas Johnny Brown and his full-tilt boogie band!! The hope is that fans of the featured bands will come into town, maybe spend the night, eat and go to the concert! The Summer Series concerts sponsor is still pending.
