The Texas Mushroom Festival
Madisonville- Are you ready for the Texas Mushroom Festival? If you have never heard of the Texas Mushroom Festival it is likely because it is a relatively new festival. This year, the Texas Mushroom Festival in Madisonville will celebrate its 10th anniversary on Saturday, October 22!
From humble beginnings in 2002, this festival has grown and evolved. New events have been added each year, and the numbers of attendees have increased to approximately 15,000 in 2010. The festival provides a unique cultural and educational experience and promotes agricultural, culinary, and fine arts in East Texas.
Last year, the arts and crafts event featured 233 booths including: jewelry, accessories, decorative items, pottery, clothing, furniture, seasonal art, toys, and many types of food; to name only a few. This year’s festival includes: mushroom cooking demonstrations by professional chefs, wine tasting, a car show, mushroom growing demonstrations, a 5k run/walk, a children’s area, a petting zoo, pony rides, and musical entertainment.
The Texas Mushroom Festival will be held around the Courthouse Square in Madisonville, streets surrounding the downtown district, and across the street from the historic Woodbine Hotel, The festival begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 7:00 p.m.
Madisonville, the Mushroom Capital of Texas, is located on I-45, at the intersection of State Highway 21, about half- way between Houston and Dallas.
