Willie Nelson Scheduled to Perform in the Pineywoods
LUFKIN- Country music legend Willie Nelson is making a stop in East Texas. Nelson and family will play at the Angelina County Expo Center on Thursday, April 19. Both general admission and reserved seating is available. Advanced ticket prices range from $39 to $54.
William Hugh Nelson was born on April 30, 1933, during the Great Depression and was raised by his grandparents. He wrote his first song at age seven and joined his first band at age ten. By the time he was in high school, he was touring with “Bohemian Ploka” as the lead singer and guitar player.
After graduating high school Nelson joined the United States Air Force but was discharged due to medical issues. He then enrolled in Baylor University but dropped out two years later because his music career taking off.
Nelson is an iconic American country music singer-songwriter, as well as an author, poet, actor and activist. The success of his album “Shotgun Willie in 1973, along with “Red Headed Stranger” in 1975 and “Stardust in 1978, made Nelson one of the most recognized artist in country music. Nelson is one of the main figures of Outlaw Country, a subgenre of country music that began in the late 1960s.
