Nacogdoches Azalea Trail set for March 1-31
NACOGDOCHES – The sixteenth annual Nacogdoches Azalea Trail will usher in springtime in East Texas March 1-31, 2014 with a mixed bouquet of mainstay favorites.
As always, the centerpiece of the Azalea Trail will be the 25 miles of self-guided driving routes that meander through the city and include the stunning Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden – the largest in the state of Texas. Each trail begins at the Visitor Center, located at 200 E. Main St. in historic downtown Nacogdoches. Color-coded signs mark the routes, and maps are available at the Visitor Center.
“Each year thousands of people from all over come to Nacogdoches to see the gorgeous azaleas on display. With over 7,000 azaleas, the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden is absolutely spectacular and a must see,” said Melissa Sanford, executive director of the Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The Nacogdoches Azalea Trail will feature several special events including a Photography Show, Tour of Gardens, A Bloomin’ Good Volkswagen Show, Azalea Symposium and everyone’s favorite, the “Little Princess” Garden Party.
Entries in the eighth annual Azalea Trail Photography Show will be on display March 18-31 at The Cole Art Center, 329 E. Main Street. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top 3 entries.
The Tour of Gardens returns this year. Nacogdoches’ finest residences on the Azalea trail will open their gardens to the public on Saturday, March 22. Tickets are $15 and available at the Visitor Center, 200 E. Main.
