No Regrets

The holidays are over and that means I will be going back to school soon, and it also means hunting season is coming to an end. If you are like me then that probably makes you just a little sad. But I can’t be too sad, after all, I had a killer season!
Every Thanksgiving I travel to Llano with my dad to meet up with my great grandmother, great aunt and uncle, and their son for a holiday hunting trip. We cook, play games, hunt, and have a great time together. It’s a long drive but totally worth it.
I knew I was going to shoot a good deer. I could just feel it.
We have different names for different hunting spots on the lease. The first evening dad and I grabbed our bows and went to the “outback.” We crawled in our stand and within minutes a buck walked out.
They say patience is very, very important when you are hunting and fishing. I agree, but I also like it when you don’t have to wait at all!
As the buck walked closer to our stand I started shaking. My buck fever jitters caused me to knock my binoculars over, and then my bow fell! Luckily, the buck didn’t hear all the commotion.
I drew back my bow but before I knew it the buck had disappeared. I was so disappointed that I almost cried. The first hunt was not a success and huge disappointment.
The next day I went back to the same stand in the “outback.” This time I meant business, so I left my bow behind and brought my .243 rifle.
That monster buck that almost made me cry stepped back out of the brush. When he got about 50 years away from my stand I took a deep breath as I reached for my gun. My heart was pounding and I could feel that shakey feeling creeping back up on me. I took another deep breath and put him in my crosshairs then pulled the trigger.
I knew I had hit him, but I wasn’t sure where. I waited about 10 minutes before crawling out of my stand to go look for him. There was a lot of blood so I knew it wouldn’t be long before I found him.
Finally, I saw his rack sticking out of the brush. My heart was still racing as I began to count all of the points.
“One, two, three, four , five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten! TEN POINTS!” I yelled!
I was so happy! I was the only person at camp that killed a deer on this trip. We even got to do a little duck hunting while I was there. The rest of the week I did nothing but eat, sleep, and relax with my family. At the end of this hunting trip I had nothing to regret.
