Piney Woods Fine Arts Association Announces Its 2013-2014 Season
Crockett- The Piney Woods Fine Arts Association has long-standing tradition of bringing the best in the performing arts to East Texas. We are happy to announce our twenty-third season presented by PWFAA. This season is sure to entertain and delight all audiences!
Season ticket holders are encouraged to renew their seats now to assure they get the seats they want for every show! Also, season ticket holders get first pick at the reserved seats for the Special Events. July 5th is the deadline for season ticket renewals and for new contributors to buy tickets to Robert Earl Keen and Pam Tillis/Lorrie Morgan before they go on sale to the general public. All tickets can be purchased through the Piney Woods website at pwfaa.org.
Tickets for the seven performance “Signature Series” at the Crockett Civic Center start at $135, with students 18 and younger 1/2 price. And in addition the Association asks that you call the office if you are interested in becoming a contributor for the first time and find out more about the benefits. Contributions cover more than 45% of our total operating budget and not only help to bring world class performers to the stage but support a wide array of Education programs the Association presents.

Saturday October 5 Piney Woods Polka Festival with BRAVE COMBO – BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND at the Houston County Airport, 7:00pm. POLKA! POLKA! POLKA! With 7 Grammy nominations and 2 wins, Brave Combo is not your average Polka Band. Brave Combo is a polka/rock band that has been a prominent fixture in the Texas music scene for more than twenty-five years. Show off your best chicken dance; enjoy the Beer Garden and authentic German cuisine. General Admission tickets are $20 in advance $25 at-the-door.

Saturday October 19 This is the 60’s – THIS IS THE ‘60S is the ultimate multimedia stage experience exploring the events that shaped the music and the music that helped shape the events of one of the world’s most turbulent periods. Through a creative blending of live music performance, film, dance, lighting, computer-generated imagery, and high-concept stage design, THIS IS THE ‘60S recreates every aspect of the decade’s pop culture.

Friday November 29 Godspell- Direct from Broadway the revival of Stephen Schwartz’s “Godspell” will hit the road for a national tour during the 2013-2014 season. The traveling production will feature Daniel Goldstein as director and Tony Award nominee Christopher Gattelli as choreographer. Both currently perform the same roles for the Broadway production. The Gospel According to St. Matthew is presented in a series of skits and songs, with Jesus and his disciples presented as loving clowns, in this musical featuring songs by Stephen Schwartz. Saturday December 14 Neil McCoy Christmas- Like a little twang in your Christmas music? East Texas’ own two-time entertainer of the year, Neal McCoy is no stranger to the country music industry. Saturday January 25 Sinbad- There is no such thing as the ‘fourth wall’ at a Sinbad show. The audience is an essential part of his 90 minute show. From the moment he stepped on stage wearing all black he was personable and ready to go. Sinbad live on stage has not lost his touch. Friday February 14 St. Petersburg String Quartet – One of the world’s leading string quartets, Grammy Nominated St. Petersburg String Quartet will perform in an intimate special Valentine Day concert at a soon to disclosed location. A special program of Romantic music for your Valentine’s Day celebration! General Admission tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at-the-door; the location will be announced at a later date.

Friday March 21 Ballroom with a Twist! Described as an evening of entertainment for the entire family, highlighted by stunning costumes, magnificent music and breathtaking performances that push the boundaries of ballroom dance – infusing it with the energy and intensity of the latest contemporary and “hip-hop” styles. It’s the who’s who of the dance and singing world joining together for an evening of grace, athleticism and passion. “Dancing with the Stars” pros are joined by “American Idol” finalists with “So You Think You Can Dance” finalists. Watching the cha-cha rattle on the television screen is one thing, but getting up-close and live is a whole other ballgame. As if the jaw-dropping dancers aren’t enough to keep you ogling at smooth moves and high kicks, several of your favorite “American Idol” finalists join the bill with their powerhouse hit songs. Thursday July 4th – Herman’s Hermits – Staring Peter Noone. Founded in Manchester in 1963, Herman’s Hermits made a name for themselves. Front-man Peter Noone keeps the stage alive with his charming wit and pop vocals. Some of their most popular hits include “I’m into Something Good,” “Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat,” “Wonderful World,” “Silhouettes,” “There’s a Kind of Hush,” “Just a Little Bit Better,” “Listen People,” “Mrs. Brown, You’ve Got a Lovely Daughter,” and the audience favorite, “Henry the Eighth, I Am.”. Friday August 30 Robert Earl Keen – Texas-born Americana Music artist Robert Earl Keen is a dynamic performer and master songster, known for such all-time hits as “The Road Goes On Forever,” “The Rose Hotel,” “Feeling Good Again,” “Corpus Christi Bay,” and “Merry Christmas from the Family.” Known for his biting wit and ability to spin a good yarn in his tunes and in conversation, Keen has been a strong presence in the Texas country-music scene. But Keen doesn’t relegate himself to a single genre. Folk, rock, and bluegrass are also in his repertoire. Thirty years out there have bought Keen a devoted fan base, but don’t worry, newbies — this is your chance to find out why he has so much staying power. Saturday March 22 Grits & Glamour – Starring Pam Tillis & Lorrie Morgan! Two of country music’s most notable female artists, have joined together for a show they have dubbed “Grits and Glamour”. Sharing the stage in a way that lets them tell stories before they launch into their hits, such as Morgan’s “Something in Red”, “What Part of No”, “Watch Me”, and Tillis’ “Maybe it was Memphis”, Don’t Tell Me What to Do”, and “Shake the Sugar Tree”.
Pam Tillis hit the country scene in 1990 when her first single hit the charts. Since then, she has earned 14 top five hits including six that hit number one, and has sold over six million records. 1994, she was awarded the coveted Female Vocalist of the Year by the Country Music Awards. Tillis was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
In 1994, Lorrie Morgan made history when at age 25 she was the youngest person ever to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. She has earned fourteen top-ten hits, twelve albums, seven of which have gone gold and platinum, and four Female Vocalist of the Year awards. Tickets start at $37.
