The Classic Sounds of the 50’s and 60’s are Coming to Crockett!!

CROCKETT-  Join Piney Woods Fine Arts Association (PWFAA) for a evening of musical magic as three of America’s favorite vocal groups take the stage for an unforgettable evening of timeless Rock and Roll and R&B. Travel back in time to the era of early rock-n-roll with the classic sounds of the 50’s and 60’s as The Piney Woods Fine Arts Association proudly presents Cornell Gunter’s Coasters, Larry Marshak’s tribute to The Platters and Bobby Hendricks Drifters in concert Saturday, Feb.16, 7:30pm at the Crockett Civic Center.  Tickets start at $32 and are available at pwfaa.org or by calling (936) 544-4276.

Relive the great music of days gone by as The Coaster’s perform their string of hits including “Yakety Yak”, “Sweet Georgia Brown” and “Poison Ivy”.  The Platters continue with “Only You”, “The Great Pretender” and “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.” The Drifter’s will follow with original hits like “Under the Boardwalk”, “This Magic Moment” and “Up on the Roof”.

The Platters first formed during the dawn of the rock & roll era, early part in the 1950’s. The list of hits turned out by the original Platters includes ten songs that qualified for Billboard’s list of the 500 greatest rock & roll hits of all time, including three in the top 50. They have had 21 top 10 records, 9 million selling singles, 5 platinum albums and 5 number 1 songs. Their total record sales exceed 200 million, making them one of the top 25 selling artists of all time. The Coasters were the supreme comedians of rock and roll. What’s more, their impact has deepened with time. Their songs, their parodies and the tunes that became million-selling records are revived in this new generation of music. The Coasters were the first vocal group to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on January 21, 1987. They have appeared in 6 major movies and have amassed over 100 million record sales in their career. And to this date, their act is one of the liveliest and funniest in show business. After 35 plus years of bringing the country and world his unique look at The Coasters, Cornell Gunter’s group continues to keep the music alive and the love for the music stronger than ever.

Bobby Hendricks Drifters’ performance today gives you the same style, charisma and history as found with some of the original singers such as, Clyde Mcphatter, Bill Pinkney, Johnny Moore, Bobby Hendricks and others. Their performance is truly unique in today’s world of coming and going of popular music groups.  Bobby Hendricks who started with ”The Drifters” in 1957 singing his original hit “Drip Drop” and his group today give the songs of the past style and class with their famous patented choreography. Today as right from the beginning the group blends a tasteful mixture of their million dollar sellers with contemporary standards, many in medley format.  Bobby Hendricks Drifters continue to reach the success their songs made on the R & B charts long ago.

PWFAA is excited to present this show and is anticipating a sell-out crowd.  Piney Woods Executive Director, J. Bryan Lake says “This show is a high-energy performance of some of the greatest hits from the greatest era in rock-n-roll!!
