Palestine- Calling all actors and actresses! Auditions for the next performance at the Historic Texas Theatre are here! This fall, Palestine Community Theatre will present the comedy, “Playing Doctor” at the Texas.
“Playing Doctor” is a hilarious play about the art of deception. In the play Rob Brewster’s parents are extremely proud of their brilliant son, the doctor. What they don’t know is that Rob has used all the money they gave him for medical school to live on as he as has pursued his fledgling writing career.
Rob is living a lie and he would like to keep it that way. His day of reckoning comes when his parents announce they are stopping by his apartment for a visit. Rob chooses to continue his deception and devises a plan. He quickly enlists the help of his dim-witted secretary to be his nurse and his zany roommate Jimmy, who is a struggling actor, to round up his actor friends to pretend to be patients. Together the trio transforms his literary apartment into a makeshift doctor’s office.
The problem ensues when none of Jimmy’s friends show for their acting gig. Jimmy decides he is such a good actor that he can impersonate all the patients, with the help of a trunk of costumes and bad dialects!
The authors of “Playing Doctor” have written a hilarious play that everyone is sure to enjoy! If you or someone you know would like to be involved in the production of this comedy at the Texas Theatre auditions will be held Aug. 27, at 10:00a.m. at the theatre.
If you want to be involved but aren’t sure about stepping into an acting role, there are other opportunities to get involved. If you play an instrument consider joining the orchestra. Or perhaps you would like to help with lighting or back stage. There is always room for a set of helping hands at the Texas!
