LUFKIN, TEXAS- Ride the giant Ferris wheel, watch lumberjacks logroll, or get in line to taste some of the best hush puppies ever made in the Deep South at the Texas State Forest Festival in Lufkin, Sept. 21-25, at the George H. Henderson Jr. Exposition Center.
The Angelina County Chamber of Commerce began the Texas State Forest Festival in 1938, which was held as an annual county fair event until 1953. The Texas State Forest Festival was held on the 30+ acres where Lufkin Middle School is currently located, and drew crowds reaching 8,000! Today, the Texas State Forest Festival draws crowds nearing 30,000!
This year, the Texas State Forest Festival will feature the Axe Women Loggers of Maine. The all female logging sports athletes are World Champion choppers and axe throwers, and the only touring “Lumber Jill” show in North America.Shows include underhand chopping, standing block chopping, hot sawing, cross cut sawing, axe throwing, log rolling and more! The Axe Women Loggers of Maine Show will take place each day of the festival.
