Not sure how to wear a scarf without looking like an extra from the Golden Girls? From the perfect Parisian knot to the super-easy pashmina update, these quick style tricks will turn those sometimes boring closet staples into something polished and chic.

Knit, cashmere, square—when it comes to scarves, there are so many choices out there. And to top it all off, each style requires a different tying method! Here is some advice to “wrap up” your look.

Sassy and Stylish

When you want to look stylish on those cold days, this method is the “when in doubt” of scarf tying. Bring the ends of your scarf together, folding it in half. Drape the folded scarf around the back of your neck and let the ends hang in front. Find the loop of the fold and pull the other end through it.

 

 

Be A Square

This style will work only with square scarves. Simply fold the square in half to form a triangle. Stretch the triangle in front of your neck (upside down, with the triangle pointing downward). Then wrap the ends around the back of your neck and let each end hang in front.

 

 

Tuck It In

If you need to warm up, wrap the scarf around your neck as many times as you can, and tuck the ends underneath. This style works best with dressy jackets and blazers because the scarf won’t cover those fabulous collars.

 

 

Boho Chic

Go bohemian by wrapping the scarf around your neck like this: Stretch the fabric in front of your neck and around the back. Let the ends hang in the front. This style will look best with patterned scarves.

 

 

 

Classically Chic

Go Hollywood glam with silk and satin scarves. Wrap the scarf around your neck, leaving one end in the front and the other in the back to create an elegant and timeless look.

 

 

 

Simply Refined

Use a wide and sheer scarf, like the cashmere scarf in the picture to cover up. It may look a bit askew, but the end result is so completely chic and sophisticated.

 

 
Properly Preppy

I absolutely love this idea! Pair any scarf in your wardrobe with your favorite ladylike bag to give it a girly edge. Just a simple knot at the center of the scarf will do.
