El Camino Real de los Tejas Festival

Alto, Texas- There is a new festival coming to East Texas! October 25, the inaugural El Camino Real de los Tejas Festival will kick off at the Caddo Mounds State Historic Site. Travel back in time on the historic El Camino Real de los Tejas this fall and enjoy food, fun, pioneer skills, presentations, crafts, music, a Caddo bow demonstration, nature and archeology hikes, and the rededication of the recently updated museum.

Festival goers will have the opportunity to experience life during the pioneer days in East Texas. Numerous vendors will be set up at the site and events will be going on throughout the day. Listen to music, browse crafts, take a guided hike, and don’t forget to bring your appetite! Everyone is invited to be part of the first El Camino real de lost Tejas Festival.

“We are very excited about the festival,” said Friends of Caddo Mounds member Dana Goolsby. “There are a lot of great things happening at the Mounds and we have big plans for the future.”

One of the site’s future plans is bringing a Caddo grass house back to the site. The group’s fundraising efforts will begin soon.

The festival will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. Admission to the festival is free but donations are welcome and encouraged.

The El Camino Real de los Tejas Festival is sponsored by the Texas Historical Commission, Friends of Caddo Mounds, Inc., and The Texas Forest Trail Region. The festival’s logo was designed by Texas Forest Trail Executive Director Marty Prince.
