Eight Rip Roarin’ Days of Fun!

Chuckwagon Ad MYETXNECHES- The 1836 Chuckwagon Race and preceding week’s events are scheduled for March 2-9, 2014. The 1836 Chuckwagon Race takes place the first weekend in March every year at the Diamond B Ranch in Neches, Texas. Five classes of wagon races: Bronc Fann’n, a cowboy style match race, Pasture team roping and cowboy mounted shooting make this a truly unique western event. The gates are open to camping a week prior to the race. Folks are encouraged to come early, bring their horses, mules, wagons and participate in the many activities on the schedule. Activities include trail rides, dutch oven cook’n classes, cowboy poetry, herd dog demonstrations, hoof care clinics, bull whip demonstrations, horse auction, wagon race calcutta, barn dances, live music, cowboy church and much more!

The first of many activities on the schedule is a 26 mile trail ride starting at 10 am on March 2nd. The week leading up to the Chuck Wagon races (March 7,8 and 9) is filled with activities.

There are five (5) classes of wagon races as well as Pasture Team Roping, BroncFannin’, Cowboy, Mounted Shooting and The Alamo Race (a 3/4 mile cowboy style match race that includes a plunge across a stock tank).

Folks are encouraged to bring their horses, mules and wagons. Daily trail rides and equine activities such as sorting competitions, cowboy mounted soccer, barrel racing clinics, cowboy mounted shooting clinics, and much more. Other activities on the schedule include a dutch oven class, horseshoeing clinics, herd dog demonstrations, equine health presentation, cowboy poetry, and a horse auction.

A concert performance by the band Texas Rebellion is scheduled for Friday night and The Kimberly Dunn Band takes the stage on Saturday.

The wagon races take place at 1:00 pm Friday, Saturday ad Sunday. Over 40 race teams will compete in five classes for the title of the 1836 Chuckwagon race Champion.
A wide variety of food vendors as well as merchandise vendors will be on hand with western products such as custom saddles, chaps, handmade knives, leather goods, tack, western art, western jewelry, and hats.

An estimated crowd of over 3000 people and over 1500 horses & mules will make this one of the largest and most unique equine gatherings in Texas.
