Grilling on the Bayou Returns To Jefferson

Jefferson, Texas- Grilling on the Bayou is coming back to Vale Street Gardens, 306 Vale Street, Jefferson, Texas on Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm (or until food runs out). Volunteer Big Green Egg Chefs will purchase and prepare enough food to be served in small portions to hundreds of Tasters who will pay an entry fee to sample the variety of foods cooked on Big Green Egg cookers. Proceeds benefit the historic Jefferson Carnegie Library. The event is sponsored by Friends of Jefferson Carnegie Library and Wholesale National Supply’s Longview location.

The first Jefferson EggFest was held last October, when the Friends of Jefferson Carnegie Library were looking for a new fundraiser, with the emphasis on FUN. It provides an opportunity for Big Green Egg enthusiasts to show off their skills – and for folks who love to eat to taste the goodies, all while raising money for the Jefferson Carnegie Library. Demonstration large Big Green Eggs are provided for the event by National Wholesale Supply for use by preregistered volunteer chefs. Registering is as simple as a phone call or email to Jefferson Carnegie Library: 903-665-8911 or [email protected].

Many of last year’s chefs are making plans to return for Jefferson’s 2015 EggFest. These experienced chefs love to share their knowledge and recipes, so novice chefs are welcome to come out and try their hand at cooking on a Big Green Egg. There is no charge for cooking, but preregistration is needed to ensure a demo Egg is available. Volunteer chefs select the recipes and provide the ingredients for the dishes they will cook.

Taster tickets may be purchased in advance at Jefferson Carnegie Library, 301 W. Lafayette Street, or at the gate on October 10. Cost is $10 per person, or $5 for ages 3-10. The entry fee provides come-and-go access to the event; tourists are encouraged to take time to enjoy historic downtown Jefferson, just a few blocks from Vale Street Gardens. Used demonstration Big Green Eggs will be available for sale at the close of the event.

Friends of the Jefferson Carnegie Library are committed to the preservation, maintenance and full usage of this historic landmark, one of 1,679 library buildings funded by the 19th century industrialist Andrew Carnegie. Today, the Jefferson Carnegie Library, built in 1907, is one of only four or five Carnegie Libraries serving its original function in Texas today. While rooted in history, the library is committed to serving the needs of the community today and into the future. At a time when many libraries are seeing reduced usage, Jefferson Carnegie Library’s circulation is increasing for both adults and children. They work actively with local schools to provide books, services and activities that support their mission to provide high quality educational opportunities for all students.

National Wholesale Supply, a Texas-based supplier of plumbing and HVAC supplies, opened its Longview store at 1227 W. Marshall Avenue earlier this year. Their 78,000 sq ft building houses three branches in one location: a plumbing and industrial valve and fittings distributorship; HVAC supplies; and a plumbing and hardware showroom. As an Authorized Gold Dealer of Big Green Eggs, National Wholesale has a showroom and full line of Big Green Egg grills and supplies.
