Palestine, Texas- In less than two weeks Palestine Community Theatre’s (PCT) Mary Poppins is set to fly over the rooftops of Palestine and land at the Historic Texas Theatre! Mary Poppins, sponsored by Ellen Weber D.D.S., is one of the most popular Disney movies of all time, and winner of 44 major theatre awards from around the globe. Mary Poppins has captivated audiences for generations with its enchanting story, unforgettable songs and dazzling dance numbers.
Mary Poppins is full of fantasy and magic, and yes, Mary will fly at the Texas!
“Flying crews will be arriving from California this week to train and assist the cast and crew with flying our Mary Poppins, played by Chaundra Dantin,” said Marketing Director Dana Goolsby.
PCT’s production of Mary Poppins will be full of familiar, local faces. Some will be making their final performance at the Texas.
“Adam Hobbs is playing the role of Bert, and his brother, Jordan, and mother, Judy, will be on stage as well. Over the years, every member of the Hobbs family has been in productions at the Texas. The Hobbs family will be relocating after the show to South Carolina. They will all be greatly missed, but we hope they will visit from time-to-time,” said Goolsby.
Directed by Sandy Hanson, Mary Poppins is the practically perfect nanny who helps us learn to take our medicine with a spoonful of sugar, find the silver lining in every situation, and realize that sometimes we should just use the winds of change to go fly a kite. Mary brings order to the Banks household, takes Jane and Michael out on magical adventures, and dispenses sage advice, such as, “anything can happen if you let it.”
The score features your favorite Poppins tunes including “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Jolly Holiday,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite,” “Step in Time,” and “Chim Chiminey.”
Mary Poppins show dates are July 23, 24, 25, 26, July 30, 31, August 1, and 2. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m.
Thursday, July 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. PCT will host a complimentary reception provided by Chef Simon Webster from Sabor a Pasion. A second reception will be held Friday, July 24, at 6:30 p.m.
“We recommend purchasing tickets to our summer musicals in advance. Musicals are well attended and shows could sell out before the performance date or at the door,” said Goolsby.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students (ages 4-18). Tickets can be purchased locally at the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce, Dogwood Diner, or Discount Pools in Elkhart. Tickets can also be purchased online at outhousetickets.com.
