Palestine Municipal Airport to Celebrate 80th Anniversary
PALESTINE- The Experimental Airport Association Chapter 1549 (EAA) will host the 80th Anniversary Celebration for the Palestine Municipal Airport. The chapter’s first event is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, with festivities kicking off at 10 a.m.
EAA Chapter 1549 is a local group of aviator enthusiasts who created the chapter to promote and attract users of the local airport, and support the community. They will host experimental, antique, classic, aerobatic and ‘Warbird’ aircraft and their owners/operators from around the country for our portion of the event. The festival will include guest speakers, fly-overs, vendors, car and motorcycle displays, and more.
The feature event of the 80th Anniversary Celebration will be an appearance by the remaining “Air Combat Aces” of World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam era during the event. A dinner in their honor will be held at Sabor Pasion Country House & Bistro the evening before the Air Expo.
Admission to the event is FREE!
EAA Chapter 1549 intends to hold monthly meetings for members and guests the first Tuesday of each month at the Palestine Municipal Airport, located at 1278 CR 421 off U.S. 287 North. The group will work to host numerous social and technical weekend events such as pancake breakfasts, airport open house events, Fly-Ins and other activities that will generate interest in the community throughout the year at the airport.
The Palestine Municipal Airport boasts a booming commercial business and a cross-wind runway, the only one of its kind in the area, which is necessary for pilot license training.
