Piney Woods Fine Arts Bringing Old-World Music in October
Crockett- The Piney Woods Fine Arts Association is excited to bring a taste of the old-world to Crockett in October. Our first event is the Piney Woods Polka Fest! with Brave Combo on Saturday, October 6 at 6:00 pm at the Houston County Airport. The second event is the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra on Thursday, October 18 at 7:30 pm at St. Luke’s Baptist Church in Crockett. Whether its polka music and dancing or classical chamber music our October events are sure to please everyone!
Get a taste of old Bavaria during the Polka Fest! Bring a group of friends and sit at one of our tables while enjoying German food and drink, then polka dancing with Grammy-winning Brave Combo performing their brand of vibrant, upbeat music! Trying to describe Brave Combo’s music requires a pretty extensive vocabulary – at least when it comes to musical styles. For the past three decades the Denton, Texas based quintet has perfected a world music mix that includes salsa, meringue, rock, cumbia, conjunto, polka, zydeco, classical, cha cha, the blues and more. They are America’s Premier Dance band and a rollicking, rocking, rhythmic global journey — offering what one critic recently wrote, “Even if you come for the party, you’ll leave with something of a musical education.” German food and drink will be available for purchase.
This event is sponsored locally by Renaissance Surgery Center of Crockett and funded in part by the Texas Commission on the Arts. General admission tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at-the-door and can be purchased on-line at pwfaa.org, at our office in downtown Crockett or at the door on the day of the show.
For lovers of classical music, the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra will be performing Thursday, Oct 6 at St. Luke’s Baptist Church in Crockett. We chose to have them perform at St. Luke’s because the venue has the best acoustics for audience members to truly appreciate the sound. Led by founder and music director Misha Rachlevsky, this dynamic ensemble is composed of some of Russia’s finest string players who have helped the orchestra earn international recognition as one of Russia’s leading ensembles. “Misha Rachlevsky … elicited warm, full-blooded and virtuosic playing with colorfully shaped, gleaming phrases,” said The New York Times. After the intermission, Rachlevsky will poll the audience and let the majority select the music for the second half of the program. The Kremlin Chamber Orchestra is funded in part by the Wilma Foote Music Club and sponsored by Wal-Mart. Tickets are general admission; $20 in advance, $25 at-the-door and can be purchased on-line at pwfaa.org or at our office Monday thru Friday from 9:00 to 1:00.
