Port Jefferson River Project
JEFFERSON- The City of Jefferson is working with Stephen F Austin State University’s Center for Regional Heritage Research on the Port Jefferson riverfront project. Currently Dr. Kelley Snowden, Professor of Historical Geography, Tourism Director Jeff Campbell and Gary Endsley of the Collins Academy are developing the interpretive panels that will be placed throughout the park.
The panels will help tell the story of Jefferson’s historic past. They will include information about the turning basin, the wharves, the railroad trestle bridge and the old Jefferson water works. As visitors stroll along the trail they will be able to learn some interesting facts about Jefferson’s rich history.
The linear park will run parallel to Big Cypress Bayou. The east half of the park will be an interpretive history trail and the east half of the park will be a boardwalk that will interpret the natural history of the area.
We look forward to the park opening this summer!
