Slough Trail
Jasper, TX.

Martin Dies Jr. State Park hugs the shores of the 15,000-acre B.A. Steinhagen Reservoir on one side and borders the Angelina–Neches–Dam B Wildlife Management Area on the other. Its location makes it an ideal place to spot some amazing birds such as herons, cranes, bald eagles, painted buntings, and the Swainson’s warbler. In fact, over 250 species of birds may be seen at Martin Dies Jr. State Park. The park sits along the northeast edge of the Big Thicket National Preserve offering hikers a tame introduction to the swampier Thicket environment and the East Texas Pineywoods.
