March has definitely come in like a lion and that means Spring Break is just around the corner. Jefferson, Texas is a fantastic destination for families during Spring Break.

Visit the Jefferson Historical Museum and view the art, antiquities, Civil War collection, learn about the Caddo Indians, see early pioneer implements and children’s toys from days gone by. Other museums in Jefferson include the Museum of Measurement and Time, the Gone With the Wind museum, the Mason Dixon military history museum and Lafayette Street Vintage Car museum.

While your in town stop by the Jefferson General Store and have an old fashioned shake or float, try a praline or a 5 cent cup of coffee. The General Store also has a wide range of books, music and children’s toys. If your sweet tooth is still not satisfied walk right around the corner and visit the Jefferson Fudge Company.

Do you love trains? Tour the famous Jay Gould car “Atalanta”, see the R.D. Moses Texas & Pacific Model Railroad or take a ride on the Historic Jefferson Railway.

Jefferson is also known for its haunted history. Visit the Grove, the most haunted home in Jefferson. Then when the sun goes down take the Historic Jefferson Ghost Walk and learn all about Jefferson’s history, haunts and legends.

Take a tour with Turning Basin Tours down Big Cypress Bayou and learn all about Jefferson’s steamboat history. Lone Star Carriages also offers a historic tour of Jefferson, which passes by Jefferson’s many restored historic homes.
