The Pour House

The Pour House

Historic Home Finds New Life

By Dana Goolsby

LUFKIN- The Pour House Grill and Garden is situated in a nearly-century-old home in the “old” downtown Lufkin area. Over the years, the house has served as everything from a frat house, antique shop, a chiropractor’s office, a daycare  and now as a restaurant and live entertainment venue.

The Pour House, built in 1915, is at no loss for heartstring-pulling-history. Last week an older woman came in and asked if she could stand on the staircase that her husband had proposed to her on 50 years ago. The woman also said her rehearsal dinner was also held at the house.

Pour House owner, Nigel Boyles, 39, is a retired East Texas girls basketball coach. For years she had been eying the old historic home located at 207 N. Raguet St. in Lufkin. She always thought it would make a great restaurant and beer garden so she decided to change careers and open a place for people to “eat, drink, and stay awhile.”

“Our goal is to offer Lufkin a unique environment where you can eat, drink and stay awhile. It’s not a place where people just come to eat and leave, we really wanted it to be a place where people come to have a social dining experience. Everybody just comes, stays and brings friends. We have live music on Thursday and Saturday nights, and karaoke on Friday nights,” said Boyles.

The Pour House atmosphere is cool and relaxed, with an amazing back yard beer garden. You won’t feel the need to leave after you finish your meal with live music out back.If you are looking for a casual place to hang out with friends or a nice restaurant for a more intimate dining experience, you can find what you are looking for at The Pour House!

Everything on the menu tastes like mama just brought it out of her kitchen, and the service is top notch. We highly recommend ordering the sampler to start with. The fried pickle spears, mozarella spinach fritters, and chips with jalapeno ranch dip are the perfect way to kick off your dining experience.

If you are a chicken fried steak  connoisseur  you will definitely want to order The Pour House Chicken Fried Steak. MYETX tends to be a pretty critical judge where chicken fried steak is concerned, but we are proud to say, The Pour House got it right.

The Pour House also features daily specials like chicken spaghetti served with fried okra and cornbread, fried catfish, baked beans, hush puppies, with homemade banana pudding, or fried pork chops served with green beans with sweet glaze sauce, twice baked potatoes, and a roll…just to name a few, all for around $8.99.

The Pour House is located at 207 N. Raguet St., in Lufkin, Texas.
