Walkin’ Across America
By Jeff Campbell / Jeff in Jefferson
Probably the coolest thing about my job is the people you meet; musicians, artists, actors, athletes and promoters. Yesterday I was fortunate to meet Colon Terrell, from Raleigh, North Carolina. Colon is not a tourist or entertainer, he’s in Jefferson today for another reason.
On Valentine’s Day of 2009, Colon suffered a heart attack. This heart attack led to a five bypass, open heart surgery. After his recovery Colon decided he would walk across America to raise awareness and $50,000 for the American Heart Association.
His cross country trek will take him 3,000 miles, from the Cape Hatteras, North Carolina Lighthouse to the Santa Monica Pier. In Jefferson, Texas he has accumulated 1,450 miles, almost halfway!
You can follow Colon’s journey at hearttrekusa.com or at twitter@HeartTrekUSA. It’s inspiring and uplifting to meet folks like Colon Terrell, who take a big negative and turn it into a major positive.
