“Weird Al” Is Coming To East Texas
“Weird Al” Yankovic will be in East Texas this weekend! September 25, 2011, at 3:00pm “Weird Al” will perform at the S.E. Belcher, Jr. Performing Arts Center in Longview. The professional parodist has made a career out of making fun of pop music’s sacred cows and is currently on his “Alpocalypse” tour. His new album “Alpocalypse” is his first full-length record of new material since his 2006 record, “Straight Outta Lynwood.”
New spoofs on his latest record include a polka medley named after a Lady Gaga tune, “Polka Face.” “Weird Al” was also inspired by Gaga to write his latest hit “Perform This Way.” Other hilarious parodies on his new album include the internet want ad spoof called “Craigslist” and a covert-ops parody of one of Miley Cyrus’, “Party In The C.I.A.”
“Weird Al” has spoofed big names such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Coolio and others. He continues to evolve as an artist and never seems to run out of material. Some of his biggest hits include “White and Nerdy,” “Like A Surgeon,” and “Fat.”
Comedy Central will debut the world premiere of “Weird Al” Yankovic Live! – The Alpocalypse Tour on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 9 PM. On Oct. 4, “Weird Al” Yankovic Live! – The Alpocalypse Tour will be released in North America on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download via Comedy Central Home Entertainment.
Few would have guessed that “Weird Al” Yankovic, who as an awkward, accordion-playing teenager got his start sending in homemade tapes to the Dr. Demento Radio Show, would go on to enjoy a varied and successful career that is now entering its fourth decade. Over that time he’s won 3 Grammys (with 12 nominations), racked up 31 Gold and Platinum Albums, and won countless awards and accolades.
Individual ticket prices: $68, $60, $52, $44 plus fees. For more information call 903-233-3080.
