Wonderland of Sites Presents An Art, History and Steeple Tour

Marshall, Texas- Marshall’s area attractions have teamed up with the 29th Annual Wonderland of Lights to present the inaugural Wonderland of Sites Tour.

“We are so excited about the plans each attraction has put in place,” said Tourism & Promotions Director Sarah O’Brien, “If you aren’t yet in the Holiday spirit this event will put you in the right frame of mind to celebrate the season.”

The event slated for Saturday, December 19th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. is a come and go affair. You may visit all of the sites, or select a few, and go in any particular order. Event maps for this free event are currently available at the Convention & Visitors Bureau located at 301 N. Washington. The 2015 Wonderland of Sites Participants are: The Starr Family Home State Historic Site, Historic Harrison County Courthouse & Museum, Gingko Leaf Gallery, The Michelson Museum of Art, The Texas & Pacific Railway & Depot Museum, and Trinity Episcopal Church. “We have just the right mix of history, art and stained glass for all of our visitors to enjoy.”

Each location has pulled out all the stops to make for a memorable afternoon embodying the Christmas spirit. The Starr Family Home State Historic Site will feature theatrical characters and Christmas Crafts on the lawn at Maplecroft. The Harrison County Historical Museum will feature costumed historical characters along with hot Wassail and cookies baked from their WWII Memorial Cookbook. Downtown’s Gingko Leaf Gallery will host a session of “Meet the Artists” where you can have one on one discussions with local artists. The T&P Depot Museum will be open for holiday tours. The Michelson Museum of Art will feature the play “Always Christmas”

The performances will last approximately 10-15 minutes and will take place at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.. Guests will also have the opportunity to take part in the play themselves. Historic Trinity Episcopal Church will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. during the event where attendees can oh and awe over the beautiful stained glass windows, Whaley Pipe Organ and take a walking tour. “Marshall is so full of wonderful art, and history.
